Forcing Bulbs
If you would like some color, and maybe a little fragrance, next winter and/or
early spring, try forcing some bulbs. In the fall put some bulbs into pots and
bring them into the house and put them in a cool/cold dark place. Allow them to
set in the dark for several months them bring them out into the light. This will
encourage them to flower earlier than they normally do.
This will work with Tulips, Hyacinths, Daffodils and Amaryllis. There are other
bulbs that will work better if you grow them in pots under cover and bring the
pots inside several weeks before the normally bloom. The warmth will usually
cause them to bloom sooner.
