Ticks

Never go into the woods so don’t need to worry about ticks....RIGHT! In case you didn’t know it, any animal passing through can drop off some ticks in your yard, the local park or just about anyplace they frequent. If you own a pet that you allow outside, you could even find ticks in the house. Some ticks carry Lyme disease which can be devastating to some peoples’ health. You certainly don’t want or need those kinds of problems.

There is lots of literature about dealing with ticks and I advise that you obtain and read some of it. If you have my book “The Best of Trapper John” there are several pages in it dealing with ticks. Your local health department or your doctor should have some information they could give you.

If you own a pet, protect it and you will be protecting yourself also. There are a number of good sprays for your dog and yourself, get some and use it.

If you need to remove a tick from yourself or your pet you should have a "De-Ticker".   This little instrument works great for removing a tick without leaving it's head or mouth parts in yours or your pet's hide.   To purchase one, call 1 800 401 7691 and don't forget to tell them Trapper John sent you.   I believe they cost $4.95 delivered to your home.   I have one in my medicine chest, one in my fifth wheel and one in my ditty bag.   That way no matter when I find one imbedded in my hide, I'm equipped to remove all of it without leaving anything behind to cause problems.

There is now a repellant that will repel ticks, "Liquid Net" put out by LIQUID FENCE CO.  This is a natural product with NO DEET in it, just some herbal extracts, five I believe.   When you apply this repellant, it's not oily or greasy your skin feels soft and smooth because of the botanical oils.   Best of all, it repels all those little bitty insects like mosquitoes, no-seems, gnats flies and more, and you can apply it right to your skin!
